Ouon Hommed[2]

Ouon Hommed was the human Acting Shipmaster of the Macragge's Honour, the flagship of the Ultramarines Legion during the Battle of the Macragge's Honour. His immediate superior was Chapter Master Marius Gage, and his opposite number was Antonus Antwark, the shipmaster of the Word Bearers' flagship, the Infidus Imperator.[2]

History

At the time of the opening phase of the Battle of Calth, Hommed was Shipmaster of the heavy destroyer Sanctity of Saramanth, one of hundreds of ships at high anchor over Calth during the Ultramariness' muster. Like all the other loyalist ships, the Sanctity was in passive status, and could not bring its systems to full power before the Imperator began cruising among the ships, destroying them with impunity. The Sanctity was struck amidships by the Imperator's firepower, and split into pieces.[1a]

Hommed would have died, but for his first officer, who bundled Hommed's unconscious form into an escape pod and ejected him into space. Hommed and several other bridge officers of the Sanctity were recovered to the Honour, and replaced the original shipmaster, who had been killed, along with most of the original bridge crew, when Lorgar summoned a host of daemons that smashed into the ship's bridge, venting it to space.[1b][1c][1d]

When Kor Phaeron failed to hold the weapons platforms in Calth orbit, he and his forces escaped to the Infidus Imperator, which fled the Veridian system with the Honour in pursuit. Hommed dictated a message to Primarch Guilliman, pledging that the Word Bearers would not escape.[2]

Hommed conducted the pursuit, according to Gage's orders, with skill and determination. When the Word Bearers completed a summoning ritual that unleashed thousands of warp anomalies across the hull and interior of the Macragge's Honour, one of these anomalies ruptured Hommed's left eye, but he refused to leave his post.[2]

Despite his trepidation, he obeyed Gage's orders to follow the Imperator into the uncharted warp rift opened by Kor Phaeron's athame.[2]

Though the Honour was badly damaged by the Word Bearers' surprise attacks, Hommed and his crew were able to find a firing solution and unleashed a devastating volley at the Imperator, crippling it. Gage ordered a second volley to destroy the Word Bearers utterly, and Hommed obeyed with relish.[2]

After the battle, Gage commended Hommed and his crew, and assured them that, eventually, they would find their way home.[2]
