Panoptic is an Imperial Penal World whose prisoner population mine Lithicarium.[1a]

History

In M42, its Lithicarium tithe began to be sent exclusively to power the Lasgun cells used in the Indomitus Crusade. However this was threatened, when its Chief of Processing, Morala Zon, became infected by the Heart_Wyrm Scrapcode, which had become a Sector wide hazard. The Techpriest was not aware of the infection, though, and became an asymptomatic carrier of the Scrapcode. This allowed her to unknowingly spread the Heart_Wyrm to the Servitors located in Panoptic's Eleven Deep Shaft, and they began attacking the prisoners and staff stationed there. Chief of Discipline Andocius Drawl was made aware of this and, as the commander of Panoptic's military forces, he sent suppression units to destroy the Servitors. However the infected and maddened cyborgs proved difficult to kill. Drawl refused to inform Governor-Warden Salvarius Dio of this, however, as Dio was well known for punishing those who brought him bad news. Drawl instead continued to send more suppression units, which continuously failed to destroy the Servitors. Worse still, the infection continued to spread in the Shaft, until Drawl finally realized he had no choice but to inform Dio.[1a]

The Warden knew that an infection of this scale, however, would require him to ask his Sector's authorities and the Inquisition for aid. Like Drawl before him, though, Dio refused to inform his superiors of the infection, as it would bring his own incompetence to light. Instead Dio ordered Drawl to continue sending suppression units to destroy the Heart_Wyrm infected Servitors. The loss of Eleven Deep Shaft's Lithicarium, however, would prevent Panoptic from reaching the tithes it owed to the Indomitus Crusade. To rectify this, the Warden had the minerals mined from Panoptic's other Shafts debased, in order to cover up the loss. The tithed Lithicarium's impurity, was eventually discovered by the Crusade, though, and the Vanus Assassin Avaaris Koln was dispatched to correct the problem. When she arrived at Panoptic, Koln learned of the Servitors' Heart_Wyrm infection and she began to work quickly to destroy them, before the Scrapcode mutated into its more contagious Conqueror-Wyrm variant. She then cut off Drawl and Dio from contacting the suppression units and with Koln's specialized skills they began to make headway in destroying the infected Servitors. The Vanus Assassion then confronted Dio, Drawl and Morala Zon in their command base and informed them of her presence. Koln did so, not only through their equipment, but also by taking command of Zon and speaking through her as well. This led Dio to believe the Techpriest was infected by the Heart_Wyrm and the Warden ordered Drawl to kill Zon. The Chief of Discipline quickly did so, but Koln then killed them, for the crime of debasing the Crusade's Lithicarium, by releasing fire suppression foam which suffocated Dio and Drawl.[1a]
