Ambold Eleven is a planet in the Sabbat Worlds Cluster, which was occupied by the forces of Chaos.

History

Close to the Sabbat Worlds Crusade's initial line of advance, Ambold Eleven was advocated, during the planning phase of the Crusade as an initial target for invasion, especially by Lord Militant Dravere, as part of his "mid-line assault" approach. Instead, Warmaster Slaydo vetoed Dravere's proposal, leaving Ambold Eleven as an objective of the second phase, Operation Newfound.[1a]

The assault by a joint Guard and Naval task force began in 756.M41. Admiral Karslae swiftly overwhelmed the orbital forts and Chaos fleet, establishing void superiority and allowing General Dilen Belfry to drop his forces into the important cities of Pelbury Civitas, Upper Ganff, and Amboldus Hive.[1a]

Although the Archenemy's forces were not numerous nor well-supplied, they benefited from the immensely strong defenses of the citadel, and repeated Guard assaults were driven back, at a cost of 9,500 Guardsmen.[1a]

Disaster struck when General Belfry was killed in a mortar attack, elevating his subordinate, Colonel Begulin of the Sarpoy Regiments to field command. Begulin blundered, trapping his men in a fire trap between the third and fourth walls of Pelbury Civitas (an area that was dubbed "Begulin's Folly" on later Imperial maps). The only thing that saved the Guard forces was the timely and spectacular arrival of the Iron Snakes Space Marines, via drop pod. The Snakes of Ithaka not only saved the Guard forces from being massacred, but went on to overwhelm the Chaos defenders of Pelbury and Amboldus Hive, slaughtering 29,000 Archenemy soldiers at the cost of only 8 of their own.[1a][1b]

A week later, Upper Ganff fell, when an Iron Snakes strike force led by Captain Pheus stormed the citadel and executed the Chaos commanders.[1b]

Colonel Begulin was executed by the Commissariat for gross negligence.[1b]
