The Purest Intent was a Space Marine Strike Cruiser.[1]

History

The Purest Intent was constructed on Shevilar and granted to the Shadow Wolves Chapter. It was captured in a xenos raid around 966.M41.[1][Note 1]

Third War for Armageddon

The ship reappeared at the onset of the Third War for Armageddon under the control of the orks. It was one of the first ork vessels to break through the Imperial blockade around Armageddon; it was shot down by the planet's orbital defences and crash landed somewhere near Hive Helsreach.[1]

The leaders of the Imperial forces defending Helsreach determined that the wreck of the Purest Intent represented a threat to the city, as they suspected that many of the orks on board were likely to have survived the crash. Merek Grimaldus, Reclusiarch of the Black Templars and one of the defence's leaders, decided to unleash the Space Marines under his command, both to give the citizens of Helsreach an overwhelming victory to bolster morale and to give the Marines the chance to engage the enemy for the first time in the war. While most of the Templars deployed in Land Raiders and Rhinos to chase down greenskins that were fleeing from the downed ship, Grimaldus led his command squad into the wreck itself.[1]

The Templars achieved a swift victory over the few orks they encountered before retreating to Helsreach to finalise preparations for the battles to come. Many of the Templars were unsatisfied by the attack, believing it was an unglamorous skirmish of little consequence. In particular Priamus, champion of Squad Grimaldus, was humiliated when he was hit by an ork weapon that drained his Power Armour of energy, as he had to be rescued by Grimaldus before the orks could cannibalise his armour for spare parts and trophies.[1]
