The Purging of Gaivos was a battle during the Psychic Awakening.[1]

Overview

The operation was launched by the Space Wolves, who hoped to curb Ghazghkull's Great Waaagh!. The Wolves targeted the rich Voria System, which was occupied by Blood Axe Orks. The Drakeslayers, Deathwolves, and Firehowlers made straight for the world of Gaivos upon entering the System, having heard their desperate pleas for aid. Their mission was to take back Gaivos' large Promethium refinery. Once they had secured vital supplies, they intended to relieve the rest of the planet.[1]

Once inside the Refinery, the Wolves rushed through the complex, clearing rooms and hunting for their prey. It was only after most of the site was secured that warriors of the Firehowlers sighted Orks. Garbed in camouflage, the Greenskins were treating into the defense polluted forests around the complex. Determined to strike the Orks before they could regroup, the Wolves charged into the forest. Their cohesion was soon broken up and each squad navigated through thorny brush and acidic bogs. This exactly what the Orks had counted on, luring the Space Wolves into an ambush. From well-concealed positions, mobs of Boyz rushed the isolated squads of Firehowlers. The Drakeslayers and Deathwolves advanced in the Firehowlers' wake, following the trail of splintered trees and blood. Krom Dragongaze followed behind Fenrisian Wolves that were sniffing out the quarry. This allowed the 2nd wave of Space Wolves to reveal many hidden ambush points, Blood Claws and Intercessors working in unison to cut down the concealed Orks. They eventually reached the Firehowlers, who were surrounded by a sea of Orks and on the verge of being overrun. The Deathwolves and Drakeslayers deployed to trap the Orks between the two Space Wolves forces. Thanks to the dense vegetation the Space Wolves were able to crush the Orks, who were not able to make use of their superior numbers. After defeating the Orks, the Wolves made for the refinery and then re-embarked to their gunships to purge the rest of the planet.[1]
