Red-marked
This article is about the unit; for the audio drama by Nick Kyme, see Red-Marked (Audio Drama). |
The Red-marked were a specialised unit of Ultramarines active during the Horus Heresy.[1c]
Overview
Formed by Sergeant Aeonid Thiel in the wake of the Shadow Crusade, the Red-marked operated at the edges of Ultramar, protecting the realm's fringes from attacks by those Traitor forces that lingered in the region. The unit's name was a twofold reference - firstly to Aeonid Thiel's helmet, which was painted red prior to the Battle of Calth as a mark of censure that Thiel kept even after he was exonerated in the fighting, and to the units' members practice of painting a vertical red stripe on their helmets, as a secret sign and method of distinguishing between allies and enemies attempting to disguise themselves as Ultramarines using scavenged armour or sorcery.[1c]
The unit was based out of the Strike Cruiser Defiance of Calth.[1c]
