Ronrul Illutar was the Prime Hermeticon of Forge World Hephaesto, the head of the world's High Council and effectively the Planetary Governor. He adopted the mantle of Tech-Priest Dominus to lead the defense of the Forge World against invading Orks.[1a]

History

In his service to Hephaesto, Illutar has pierced the Veiled Region with an Expeditionary Fleet and returned with three different ancient STC databases. One of which was used to regulate his Forge World's volcanic nature and convert the limitless power of the magma core into efficient energy for Hephaesto's Forges. Illutar had also negotiated peace between the Knight Houses Nansus and Coneale, when their conflicting honour-oaths almost led them to tearing the Sector they reside in apart. Thus when the Forge World's previous Prime Hermeticon died, Illutar was unanimously chosen to replace her in its Primary Forge, Node Primus, and to take her seat in Hephaesto's High Council. This made him the highest-ranking Tech Priest on Hephaesto, so when the Orks of the Tekwaaagh! and the Freebooter Badrukk invaded in M42, Illutar took on the mantle of Tech-Priest Dominus.[1a]

However, while Ilutar was successful in other fields, war was not one of them. Illutar gravely underestimated the orks, arrogantly thinking of them as nothing but tool-wielding animals. He would not listen to anyone who stated otherwise and focused his attention on defending Node Primus, where the High Council resided, even as other Forges began to fall to the Orks. The Dominus also dismissed any concerns and suggestions from the other High Council members when the Orks did not attack the ambush positions he had established[1a]. Worse still, Illutar repeatedly counter-manned the military orders of Node Primus' Secutor Field Commander Haphax Mitranda, when Mitranda attempted to bypass the Dominus' unproductive battle plans. This long list of mistakes by Illutar eventually allowed the Orks to successfully invade Node Primus.[1b]
