Sarastus was a former Hive World of the Imperium.[1]

History

Largely forgotten after its industrial output fell (partly due to depleting resources), Sarastus became a recruiting world for a Night Lords warband led by Lord Vassaago. The Chaos Space Marines subjugated the populace, massacring millions of the inhabitants until the remainder lived in silent fear in the lowest reaches of the planet's hives.[1]

Potential recruits for the Night Lords were identified by their chosen servants on Sarastus, known as the Prophets of True Night. These aspirants, known as "ghouls", were then cast into the abandoned upper reaches of each hive. The ghouls, all under the age of thirteen, were generally members of various gangs that had been allowed to fester in the underhives; they would fight to survive until a time of choosing heralded by the song of the Black Sun, at which point they would make their way to the uppermost spire.[1]

Geography

Sarastus boasted at least four hive cities, the largest of which was Carceri. These were the primary targets of the Night Lords.[1]
