Sky Fortress
The Sky Fortress (or "Skye") was a massive Orbital Plate over Terra in the time of the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.[3a]
During the Horus Heresy
The Sky Fortress was once an orbital plate (known as Skye) that was the sole large platform to remain above Terra in the lead up to the Battle of Terra. Cannons were added to its frame, and it was kept in geosynchronous orbit to the West of the palace.[2]
During the Siege of Terra the Sky Fortress acted as a fire support platform and flying aircraft carrier, though by the later stages of the battle its aerial compliment had greatly diminished and the plate itself was badly damaged. Despite this, its commanding officer Ayo Nuia still carried out his duties and agreed to take part in Jaghatai Khan's counterattack to retake the Lion's Gate Spaceport.[3a] During the subsequent battle the Orbital Plate was grievously damaged by traitor fire and crashed into the Imperial Fleet College, devastating the traitor lines in a titanic explosion.[3b]
