Spriggan

Spriggan was a Thane of Necromunda's House Cawdor in mid M41, who created the sacred Pax Redemtos document.[1]

History

It ensured House Cawdor's warriors would not lawfully fight for the Redemption Cult, but the creation of the Pax Redemtos was not on Thane Spriggan's own accord. The action was forced upon him, after Cawdor's enemies attacked the House, due to their fear of its rise in power. This was caused by the growing influence of the Redemption Cult, which had become increasingly popular among Necromunda's drudging classes. As the Cult and House were both extensively linked together, this in turn increased House Cawdor's power as well. In order to stop this, clan masters and nobles placed crippling sanctions upon Cawdor's industries, costing it, and by extension the Redemption Cult, vast sums of wealth. The true crippling blow came, however, when an alliance of Noble Houses convinced the Planetary Governor Helmawr at that time, to petition the Ecclesiarchy to declare the Redemption a subversive cult and to enact a ban of its practice on the Hive World. If this came to pass, though, it would cause disastrous rebellions in many of Necromunda's Hives and so Thane Spriggan was forced to create the Pax Redemtos for Helmawr. While the law forever divided Cawdor's warriors, between faithfully serving it or becoming outlaws and serving the Redemption Cult, Spriggan's actions ultimately preserved his House.[1]
