There are other stub guns in the warhammer 40k universe. Learn to necromunda you godless heretics! (end of a van saar fan rant)--Madness 00:40, 30 May 2008 (CEST)

How to tidy this?

First, we must decide what are we going to talk about here:

  1. a stub guns only article: as depicted in Necromunda, it's a kind of pistol weapon, might mean both the revolver kind and the automatic (autopistols are NOT automatic stub guns, they are more like SMG, uzi-like weapons), the Inquisitor rulebook(p57) calls stub guns like that.
  2. a catch-all term(pseudocategory, think the power weapon term as it is used in codices from 3rd edition on) for the minor firearms with a similar structure to our current world weapons, some candidates might include
    • stub guns
    • autopistols
    • shotguns
    • heavy stubbers
    • shootas
    • heavy shootas
    • sluggas
    • six-shootas(gorkamorka)
    • kroot rifles
    • sniper rifles
    • more
Basically most of the weapons listed in Wikipedia:Weapons of the Imperium (Warhammer 40,000) under Ballistic Weapons that do not have their own article.
  3. A category-type article, similar to the Bolt Weapons or Plasma Weapons but I'd rather stick with wikipedia terminology and use Ballistic Weapons, as it seems more fit to the job.
  4. A language term article focusing on who is calling stubber what, with links to the Ballistic Weapons article/category where due.

The last option seems the most likely one to me, but it would mean moving all the technic data away in separate pages. Which is good in my humble opinion.--Madness 14:18, 2 June 2008 (CEST)

Sure, let's discuss. Personally, I think that what I've changed is satasfactory, now that I've changed links from external and taken a few links off, and such. I've gone for the second idea, more than the others, simply because of simplicity, and all of the information is on one page. I'm probably missing a greater point here, so don't be afriad of being blunt with me. --Jack Hyter 17:55, 2 June 2008 (CEST)

I Concur with what jack says. its all simple and on one page, i just fixed some typos... Endeavour 19:39, 2 June 2008 (CEST)

Yeah, typos are common on pages I manage to attempt. :D Not intentional. --Jack Hyter 20:37, 2 June 2008 (CEST)

Well, point is, every weapon article should get a consistent structure, Jack said he meant to use that as a catch all term, if it is so, then every weapon should get a single article, Stub-Revovler and Stub-Pistol are usually called Stub Guns in Necromunda and Inquisitor, in Dark Heresy they are treated as separated. But what's my point? My point is: there is a poopload of informations about warhammer 40000, sorting it can't be easy, if you feel it's easy, you're probably overlooking something. :)
This said, I went and checked the following resources:

no mention of the term "stubber" is there. I also gave a quick look at the Codex: Imperial Guard (3rd Edition), both the revised and the first one, nothing there as well, but a more throrough research might be in order. Sadly I don't own Rebel Winter (Novel), if someone can shed some light on that I'd be grateful. Any other places I should be checking?--Madness 20:51, 2 June 2008 (CEST)

Did you read any of the Dark Heresy? I can't speak for any older versions, but the copy I have, it has a paragraph for each type of 'Stub-Gun' which the Imperium uses. Although there is no mention of 'Stub Rifles' I used it as a 'Misc Other' term, which contained Hunting Rifles, generic Snipers, sub-machineguns, assault rifles, carbines and Autoguns which used Cased Munitions, note; the Cased part of that. Although I refered "Stub-Pistols" as Pistols because what the book refers to as "Stub-Automatics" brings about a misconseption of machine pistols or sub-machine guns. Although I forgot about "Hand Cannons" which are Stub-Revovlers, with the exception of the bore of the calibre.--Jack Hyter 15:33, 5 June 2008 (CEST)

I did, tho Dark Heresy seems to be a canon-expanded universe, where many things are partially reworked. I'm not sure we can use that. Take for instance the MANY MANY MANY MANY different kind of weapons (even advanced ones) that appear in the game. Any old school fluff master knows that the Imperium isn't that technologically advanced at all, the powerful weapons it has are either ancient relics or stuff whose STC has been found. In Dark Heresy there are many weapons based on function-concepts that appear nowhere, and yet are common in that instance of the background, so I'm led to think that Dark Heresy is only half-canon, moreso if you consider it's not even being published by GW's subsidiaries anymore. Most of the canon stuff that appear in Dark Heresy also appears on the Inquisitor Handbook. --Madness 19:34, 7 June 2008 (CEST)

Not something I was overly aware of, I can't say I've read all the fluff out there, nor did I read some of the more 'Relms of Wrong' paragraphs, examples of such are the Web and Needle weapons. Having another fleeting glance through it, quite a number of things strike me as reasonable, such as the Melee weapons. The Solid Projectile weapons, plus upgrades are avaible today (with the exception of asthetics, but that can easilly be changed), nevermind 40K years away. Anyway, I'll see about getting an Inquisiter Hand Book. There is nothing about Stubbers in the Codex other than stating that it is a machine gun of low techinical requirment. Until I have read more (And I will...) I am going to have to retire from this discussion.

You're lucky, both the necromunda and Inquisitor rulebooks are available from specialist games to download freely. Not much to scavenge. :) Again, if someone could provide excerpts from Rebel Winter (Novel) about ballistic weapons, it'd be great. --Madness 04:18, 9 June 2008 (CEST)

Source of the page name?

Where is the term "slug-thrower" actually used as the catch all for traditional solid projectile firearms?TheNuclearSoldier (talk) 00:32, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

If there is no source stated and you can't find one within a reasonable time frame: kill it. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 08:52, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
