I have reviewed the sourcing requirements for this wiki and noted that it has asked that novels, because of differing print runs, are required to reference by chapter only and not page number. If my understanding of the sourcing rules is incorrect, please let me know asap. --Sanguinarius 19:43, 23 February 2012 (CET)

My understanding is this: Chapter numbers are absolutely required, because of differing print runs, and other contributers often make the mistake of including page numbers without chapters; however, page numbers should be included if possible; also, there is less danger in this case because A Thousand Sons has not yet, to my knowledge been published in a different format (e.g., in an omnibus). Check out the article on the Thousand Sons Legion.--Proteus77 20:06, 23 February 2012 (CET)
I respectfully disagree. I have the ebook version of A Thousand Sons and the page numbers change based on the size of my fonts, thus my inability to accurately cite pages, or others to find it. --Sanguinarius 20:09, 23 February 2012 (CET)
Fair enough; then I would respectfully ask that you leave the "cite" sign in place and allow myself or someone else to add page numbers from the primary print version, when they are able to. However, I am not an administrator, so feel free to do as you wish.--Proteus77 20:25, 23 February 2012 (CET)
I have not problem with the cite tags. My concern is I am not helping if I am creating work for other authors. I have asked an admin to review our discussion and provide direction if required. Thanks for the information. :) --Sanguinarius 20:34, 23 February 2012 (CET)
For novels chapter is required - I usually add page number aswell, but this isnt required. Short stories obv dont have chapters so page numbers are all you can put for them, Im not too sure about audio books. The cite tag is not nescessary as long as the chapter numbers are included in the source. The Lemur 21:01, 23 February 2012 (CET)
As discussed: in the case of novels chapter numbers have to be cited. With chapter numbers given there is no point in leaving in cite tags as pagenumbers are not a reliable navigation instrument due to different print runs, ebook versions and possibly there are even differences between the US and UK versions... For short stories that are not divided by something like parts: just the short story. For Audiobooks the chapter/ track. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 23:05, 23 February 2012 (CET)
I stand corrected, then.--Proteus77 00:55, 24 February 2012 (CET)
This is not about correcting people. We had to (and will have to) adapt our citing guidelines many times. In the beginning pagenumbers were just fine. Who would have thought that Black Library books would become so successful that they would do more than print run. I have all first print runs since when the first BL (not the pre-BL ones, there I have copies, but not first edition) novels came out. And suddenly we had different editions, re-publishings, versions, runs etc, so it did not make sense to stick to an obviously unsuited system. And with the electronic versions this has become even more extreme. And this s not even taking into account that some of the republications of the really old novels have been modified to remove for examples Squats... --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 11:15, 24 February 2012 (CET)
This is just the information I've been looking about the site for recently, thanks for stating the requirements so clearly. Will adapt from now on.--Mob 05:25, 7 March 2012 (CET)
