Talk:Thadus Valconet Horst

Not sure how we want to deal with the fact that Horst has at least two different first names, "Gideon" and "Thadus". I've just put it under "Canon Conflict" for now. There's also an "Inquisitor Horst" mentioned in the 4th edition Space Marine codex, page 8, talking about the Space Wolves. I have no idea whether this is supposed to be Gideon/Thadus, the Horst from Armageddon (who may well be the same Horst as Gideon/Thadus), or least likely of all, a third Inquisitor named Horst.

100% sure it is the same inquisitor? Not saying it's not, just reminding never to extrapolate or interprete. Also we simply do not know how common the name "Horst" might be or not. Apart from knowing of course that GW writers always have a penchant for Germanic-sounding names. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 15:25, 21 March 2018 (MDT)

As far as "Gideon" and "Thadus" are concerned: yes, I'm 100% sure. In BFG, the BFG novels, and the BFG video game, there's only one Inquisitor Horst involved, doing all the Eye/Hand/Blackstone/Gothic Sector related things. His name was given as "Gideon" in the Rennie novel. Now Thorpe says he's "Thadus", but he's doing the same things at the same time...except Savaven somehow survives getting blown up like Alderaan, and Horst gets into some kind of spiritual transmigratory shenanigans instead of just disappearing. This is definitely the same character...just written by somebody on the GW staff who only knew about BFG (and its novels, and its video games) second-hand and decided to wing it.

Maybe "Gideon" ist just reserved for the Ravenor "brand" now ;) Be as it be, classical GW canon conflict and to be treated as such. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 12:56, 22 March 2018 (MDT)
