Talk:Vanus Temple

Gav Thorpe once posted this on Warseer: ... I believe the Vanus were supposed to be a 'terminate with extreme prejudice' sort of Temple – kill you, your family, your dog, your dog's family, blow up your house, the dog's kennel. your family's houses, your dog's family's kennels, etc. Over the top displays of the Imperium's power are the order of the day for these psychos – 'look what we can do to you when you least expect it' sort of thing

But intention doesn't equal canon, so go with what you want. I like to think they kill the victim, then erase him/her from history - all documents, organisations, records, perhaps even psycho-conditioning on close family and friends, everything altered to leave no record of his/her existence, leaving an empty space in history (since 'vanus' means 'empty' in latin).
CRKrueger:
Heh, note that your version is about 100,000 times better then Gav's (at least to those older then 12 years old)? But I guess your version wouldn't make a good mini, where Gav's would be so kewl with the Jason hockey mask/psychic hood/rosarius and his power/chain/force machete. Hell, I got an idea, the Vanus draw their recruits only from the lesbian-stripper-ninja S&M deathcult chicks and Sisters Repentia that were too naughty to whip anymore.
In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger "Time to feed parakeet."
Gav rant done now. Your interpretation of the Vanus is very nice, BTW.

Skallagrim:

It should be noted that "Vanus" in latin does not only mean "Empty". Vanus -a -um can mean "empty/void", "vain", "idle", "worthless", "meaningless". When refering to a person, it can mean "ostentatious", "boastful", or "unreliable." The Vanus Temple can just as easily refer to a temple that is ostentatious in the execution of its tasks, much in the over-the-top vein Gav describes.
