The Cruach Mhorn Massacres occurred in 304.M39 on the Hive World Cruach Mhorn.[1a]

Conflict

In 292.M39, the Shadow Hawks Chapter's Third Company began a culling campaign to eradicate "rebellious factions" on Cruach Mhorn, murdering large numbers of people on the planet.[1a] In 304.M39, this culling finally caused a short-lived uprising by Chaos Cults on the planet, dubbed the "Silent Legions of Cruach Mhorn". These rebels displayed unnatural survival abilities: For instance, the Silent Legions' tank crews often sealed themselves shut inside their war machines. Tanks treated in this way remained operational for a span of time far exceeding the point at which the crew should have starved to death.[1b]

Despite the cultists' tenacious resistance, the Shadow Hawks' Third Company also crushed this open rebellion[1b] in a last series of massacres. However, the company was subsequently censured as their operations left Cruach Mhorn's remaining population unable to fulfil its production quotas owed to the Administratum.[1a]

Rather than accept the dishonour of exile on a Penitent Crusade, Captain Mahaur led the survivors of the third Company in a series of raids on Imperial Navy fleets and outposts in the Cruach System, before vanishing into the lightless void of the Halo Stars.[1a]
