The Sore is a massive Warp tunnel that was created by Typhus the Traveler's Sorcerers, during the Charadon Campaign. It directly connects the Obolis Sub-sector's Chaos-held Alumax System to the Imperial-held Metalica System. Once it was created, Typhus used it to launch a direct attack on the Forge World Metalica, which was his primary target for the Campaign.[1b]

Its creation began, after Typhus was betrayed by the Sorcerer Yharron Thayl and the Dark Apostle Tsorr'Kanath, during the Charadon Campaign. The two head been charged with attacking the Knights of House Raven in the Lirac Sub-sector, to prevent them from aiding the Forge World Metalica. It was Typhus' primary target in the Campaign, but Thayl and Tsorr'Kanath ignored his orders and began their own agenda. This allowed House Raven's Knights to freely travel to the embattled Obolis Sub-sector and fall upon the invading Chaos forces. Caught by surprise, by the unexpected appearance of the Knights, Typhus' forces were beaten back by House Raven and other Imperial forces to the Alumax and Chromyd Systems. Typhus retreated to the Alumax System[1a] and entered a psychic communion with the emissaries of the Chaos God Nurgle, as he sought to turn the tide of the war. Critically Typhus learned from them arcane lore, that would allow him to modify the long running Chaos ritual that had begun on the Alumax System's world, St Bartolph's Throne. The ritual had originally been intended by the Traveler, to topple the last Imperial defenses barring the path to the Metalica System. Now, though, his new found knowledge allowed Typhus to create a Warp tunnel that would connect the two Systems and allow him to easily attack Metalica instead. In order to complete the ritual, however, the System's Monitor Station Meta-Obol Gamma 4 would need to be captured. It was the last Imperial holdout in the Alumax System and Typhus personally led the attack upon it, to ensure it quickly fell. By then, though, the Space Marine Strike Force Scourge, led by the Excruciators' Chapter Master Dhane Tanielu, had entered the System and sought to stop Typhus' plans. Tanielu had first intended to press the Imperium's advantage by invading the Alumax System, but shortly after their arrival, his Chief Librarian, Mosu Ioanu, was struck with dire visions. While he did not know exactly what Typhus planned, Ionau knew it would be catastrophic for the Imperium and it involved St Bartolph's Throne and Meta-Obol Gamma 4. The Chief Librarian shared his visions with Tanielu and the Chapter Master ordered the Strike Force to split into two parts. He would lead an attack on the Chaos ritual site, they had discovered on St Bartolph's Throne, while the other half of the Strike Force would defend Meta-Obol Gamma 4, from Typhus.[1b]

Despite their fierce efforts, however, the Strike Force defending Meta-Obol Gamma 4 was slain and Typhus claimed the Monitor Station. He then planted several Malignifiers that were swelled with the power of Chaos, aboard the Meta-Obol Gamma 4. Once the final one was implanted, the Magnifiers across the Charadon Sector entered into a psychic link with each other. This empowered the Chaos ritual on St Bartolph's Throne and allowed it to be completed, even as the Sorcerers were being attacked by the Strike Force led by Chapter Master Dhane Tanielu. As the world began to collapse in on itself, Tanielu gave the order to retreat to their ships, though, many of the Strike Force's Space Marines, were not able to escape in time. Soon St Bartolph's Throne was consumed by the ritual, which had created a giant Warp Rift which emitted the power of Nurgle from its entrance. The Strike Force did not realize it, at the time, but another Warp Rift had also opened within the Metalica System and each was connected to each other. Typhus knew his plan had succeeded, though, and led his Plague Fleet into the Warp tunnel and soon fell upon the surprised Metalica System[1b]. The Warp tunnel as been named The Sore by the System's embattled Imperial defenders and it is also aiding Typhus' forces in the attack. The power of Nurgle flows through its opening in flares containing Daemons, which corrupt everything they hit. The Metalica System Hive World Munis Ferrum, lies close to The Sore and has been repeatedly bombarded by these plague flares. As a result, the world is becoming a decaying nightmare and is now being swarmed by Daemons of Nurgle. Gigantic tentacles have also emerged from the Warp tunnel, and they attacking anything they can reach. Like the flares, the tentacles bring corruption to anything they touch and also cause Daemons to appear. This proved the doom of the Metalica Gun Barge Proximedes-Cerrus, as it began to decay after being caught by the tentacles. Even as it fired upon its captors, the Cerrus' crew was overwhelmed by a tide of Daemons that were summoned by the tentacles. The Sore has also disrupted local Warp currents, which has delayed or prevented Imperial reinforcements from aiding the embattled System. Worse still, The Sore is expanding at a staggering rate and no ones knows how large it will grow. Some Imperials fear, that it may even shallow the Metalica System whole.[1c]
