Welcome to Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum! We hope you will contribute much and well. You will probably want to read the [Lexicanum:Help help pages]. Again, welcome and have fun! Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 20:19, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Problems

Hello, it is obviously appreciated when people contribute but the rules have to be observed. Generally, first have a look at Citations and Image upload help. Do note that sometimes people in the past/ previous editors did not follow those rules, so simply following pre-existing examples often is wrong.
More specifically some problems I noticed with your image uploads:

  • no sources provided
  • no copyright disclaimer
  • insufficient image summary
  • no categorization
  • image format should (normally) be jpg unless there is a good reason to use another format

Question

Hello, i'm working on improving my wiki-fu, but i have some questions :

  • 1) i cannot change or delete already uploaded gif files to jpeg files (i get a MIME type error message because i can't change the "title" of the fil i reupload), should i upload new files in the jpg form and abandon my initially uploaded gif file ?
  • 2) Once i properly updated my image files in accordance to the help/rules, and i then repost them in the appropriate image categories, is everything going to be ok or will there me more pitfalls that i might then encounter ?

Keep in mind, i'm just adding images that are missing from the database, nothing more. --Siegfriedfr (talk) 17:24, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Answer

0.) Please always sign your talk/ discussion contributions. Simply type --~~~~ which will be automatically transformed into your time-stamped signature.
1.) You can't, correct. Simply re-upload it with the correct parameters, the unused old picture will be dealt with during regular clean-up operations.
2.) It is somewhat difficult to think of every possible pitfall in existence. The most important pitfalls should be detailed in the Citations/ Image upload help articles. Fulfill all the requirements there and you are probably 99% safe. And if there are still issues we will resolve them. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 16:43, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Categorizing

Ok i finally understood what you meant by categorizing and i updated some of the pictures accordingly.

However i encountered a bug : when i try to edit some of the picture pages to add the categorization line, it now logs me out; therefore the ones not updated are the ones where this weird behavior happened. I'll try to update the pages tomorrow. --Siegfriedfr (talk) 10:26, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

I will have to check that. Haven't noticed or heard about this phenomenon so far. But I am not sure I will manage today. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 11:22, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
I have noticed this as well. Sometimes when looking at an image page it will say that I'm not logged in but if I move to another page I can edit that one just fine. It's like the website occasionally refuses to acknowledge that you're logged in, but only on image pages and only some of the time. It's weird. KazilDarkeye (talk) 17:27, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
Oh, incidentally thank you for the tyranid images Siegfriedr. KazilDarkeye (talk) 17:28, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
I would just ignore such issues. I sometimes also have that, but a page refresh has so far always fixed it. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 08:40, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Going through them to set you on the right path, i.e. for learning purposes.

Etc.

I updated the 3rd edition ravener picture (better quality and some GiMP editing), added the source as link from Codex: Tyranids (3rd Edition) and would like your opinion about wether the page is up to the expected standards. Thanks ! --Siegfriedfr (talk) 16:29, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Sure, I will always give feedback when requested. Just busy right now. If you don't hear from me till the end of the weekend, send me a reminder, thx. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 20:22, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
For the sake of uniformity please write pagenumbers in sources as (see also my changes to the file you mentioned): ..., pg. 27 or pgs. 12/13 or pgs. 27-30 etc. thanks. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 09:09, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
Best generally keep exactly to the form given in Citation Help. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 09:10, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Image remarks II

Taking File talk:Tyranid warriors 2nd edition.jpg into account I remembered another advice: Avoid group pictures. First of all they are more difficult to integrate into a gallery because the proportions are different. Second in case we do not have the precise official source it is much easier to find equivalent *individual* model images with official sources. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 08:44, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
