Valerian was a Devastator Sergeant of the Black Templars Chapter.[1]
Valerian fought under Commander Athellenas against a cultist horde on Empyrion IX. He was notably critical of Athellenas's decision to engage in a series of fighting retreats, rather than making a stand against the cultists at either the planet's temple or spaceport, even threatening to protest his actions to the Chapter Master when they returned to Terra. Nevertheless, Athellenas's tactics won the day, vindicating his decision in the eyes of the Templars.[1]
