A Venerable Land Raider

Venerable Land Raiders are ancient Land Raiders used by the Adeptus Custodes.[1a]

Overview

Many Venerable Land Raiders can trace their history back to the earliest years of the Imperium and fought in the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. These dauntless war engines have now served for ten thousand years and each has built a legend every bit as magnificent as those possessed by the greatest Imperial champions. They have also developed Magos-class machine spirits and these noble and aggressive entities can independently aim and fire the vehicle's guns and coordinate its auto-repair rituals when circumstances require it. Venerable Land Raiders are the primary ground transport of the Adeptus Custodes and deliver their passengers into the heart of battle, then support them with unparalleled armoured might once they disembark. In extreme circumstances these amazing war engines have even been teleported directly onto the battlefield, through the use of ancient Godstrike-pattern teleportariums. This tactic has won many victories for the Adeptus Custodes, for it is a rare enemy indeed that can survive the sudden appearance of a Land Raider full of demigods in the middle of their battle lines. Stories even exist of Venerable Land Raiders fighting on, after their Custodian crews were slain and then proceeding to wreak bloody revenge for their deaths.[1a]
