The Famine Wars were a series of uprisings on the Imperial world of Idolwilde.[1]

Overview

In the mid-late 41st millennium, a famine on the planet Idolwilde led to a series of peasant revolts that toppled the Idolwilde Senate. A number of Imperial Guard Regiments had been stationed on Idolwilde, and these fought against the native populace to try to restore order.[1]

Later in the conflict, the Imperial intelligence operative Bel Torthute uncovered the instigators of the war; a number of corrupt government officials had orchestrated the famine in an attempt to gain control of the planet. To make matters worse, these men had links with the Departmento Munitorium and at least two of the Guard regiments deployed on Idolwilde were in their pocket.[1]

Torthute chose to confide in the only person on the planet that he thought he could still trust: Colonel Zoren of the Vitrian Dragoons. As the Vitrians were outsiders to the conflict, Torthute gambled that Zoren and his men were still loyal. His gamble paid off; working together, Torthute, Zoren and his Vitrians were able to put down the rebellion, defeating the corrupt Guard regiments in the Battle of Altatha and executing those that had masterminded the rebellion.[1]

Aftermath

The fact that corrupt Imperial officers had orchestrated the wars was expunged from the official records for the purposes of morale.[1]

Torthute and Zoren parted on friendly terms, although Zoren thought that they would never meet again. He was proven wrong three years later, however, when Torthute enlisted Zoren to help him protect Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt (another of Torthute's allies) during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade.[1]
