Styx River

The Styx River is a river on the planet Armageddon, located southwest of Hive Infernus. The Styx is linked to the Chaeron River to the north by the Krynnan Canal.^[1]

History

It is notably where the Daemon Primarch Angron was defeated by the Grey Knights, during the First War of Armageddon. Ever since his banishment, the unusually iron-rich soil of the Styx River's polluted banks has remained red and moist to this day. The Epistolary Graucis Telomane is among the thirteen Grey Knights that survived the battle and he later gathered a vial of the Styx River's soil, to use in a ritual against Angron in M42.^[2]

Many of the features of Armageddon are named for dark figures or places associated with either the end of the world or the afterlife in various mythologies. In this case, the River Styx is one of the rivers of the Underworld in Ancient Greek mythology.
