'''Vanguard Veterans''' are part of the first company of a [[Space Marine]] [[Chapter]]. A Vanguard Veteran squad is made up of Space Marines who have completely immersed themselves in the art of close-quarter fighting.The members of the squad are some of the best hand to hand fighters in the Chapter and therefore are given access to more specialised weapons from the armoury unlike other Marines, such as [[Relic bladesBlade]]s.<sup>1</sup>
The Vanguard squads are usually used to attack the weaker points in an enemy's line or to reinforce an ally in trouble. Due to their equipment and fighting style they rarely remain stationary and after destroying one enemy, quickly move on to engage another. Members of Vanguard squads sometimes come into conflict with members of [[Sternguard Veteran|Sternguard]] squads, due to their opposing styles.
