Lugo was one of several "New Minted" generals appointed by [[Warmaster]] [[Macaroth]] following his succession of [[Warmaster]] [[Slaydo]]. Many of these generals were unproven in battle; some, like [[Urienz]], succeeded brilliantly, others failed to win either effective victories or the respect of their subordinates. Lugo fell decisively into this latter category, though he was adept at making headway in the political circles of the Crusade forces^1a.
