Dhakal had once been a [[Thunder Warrior]] who had fought for the [[Emperor]] in the [[Wars of Unification]]. In those days, his name was [[Arik Taranis]], and he was well known as a Lightning Bearer for the Emperor. He was known as the Victor of Gaduare, The Last Rider, The Butcher of Scandia, The Thronesayer.{{Fn|1b}} According to legend, he was taller than the [[Hollow Mountain]] and had carved the Pass of Mohan with his fists. {{Fn|1a}}
It was thought that Arik had died of his wounds after raising the Banner of Lightning at the Declaration of Unity, after the Battle of Mount Ararat in the Kingdom of Uratu. {{Fn|1b}}
