Icarael
,→History
Born on a Cardinal World of the Ecclesiarchy, Salem Proctor, Icarael led a revolt against the planet's corrupt and rebellious Cardinal ruler after said Cardinal was declared a traitor by the Inquisition. When Inquisitor Karamazov and two entire Orders of Sisters of Battle arrived at Salem Proctor they were surprised to find Icarael had mobilized much of the world against the Cardinal.1
Together with the Inquisitor's forces, Icarael's rebels defeated the armies of the apostate Cardinal and cast him from his throne. Many were moved by the young preachers simple eloquence, his devotion to the Emperor, and his humility. Many thought his incredible rallying of the planetary populous was testament that Icarael was divinely guided. Thus it was not long before Inquisitor's Inquisitors of the Thorian faction sought out Icarael, viewing him as a potential vessel for the Emperor's spiritual resurrection. A staunch Amalathian, Karamazov was bitterly opposed to this move and captured Icarael, bringing him to the Inquisitorial Fortress at Sevarian.1
For six months Karamazov viciously tortured Icarael, ignoring the repeated pleas of other Inquisitors and Ecclesiarchy officials to see the boy. Finally, Ecclesiarch Decius XXIII petitioned the Inquisitorial Representative to have Icarael released and other Inquisitors mobilized local forces to lay siege to Severian if they were not granted access to the preacher. However the act had come too late, Karamazov had already declared Icarael to be a false prophet and burned the boy alive. Karamazov gave the charred corpse to the mobilized Inquisitor's. However the public outcry and calls for the Inquisitor's arrest were soon alleviated when taints of Chaos were uncovered on Salem Proctor amongst those who had followed the teachings of Icarael.1
