Sebastian Yarrick was born '''Sebastian Vaarden''' on the world of [[Taos III]]. Orphaned at the age of 7, he was raised by his tough but caring grandfather Yarrick who himself was a veteran [[Sergeant (Imperial Guard)|Sergeant]] of the [[Imperial Guard]]. It was from her that he learned the art of survival and combat. When [[Ork]]s invaded Taos III Sebastian's grandfather was killed and he spent 3 years alone on the world, surviving in the forest and laying traps to kill Greenskins. When Imperial reinforcements arrived they found Sebastian, who had taken on the name Yarrick in honor of his grandfather. Shortly after he was taken in by the [[Schola Progenium]] and trained to become a [[Commissar]].{{Fn|10}}

In his youth, Yarrick had learned the Ork language from a captured raider, and became an expert in the way the Ork mind worked. Before the [[Second War for Armageddon]] began, in 941.[[M41]], he had already served in a dozen campaigns as a [[commissar]] with [[Armageddon]]'s [[Planetary Defence Forces]] and gained a reputation for unswerving loyalty to the [[Emperor of Mankind|Emperor]].
