Talk:Dark Tongue

Fantasy or 40k

Is this accurate? Among the runes added is one for Skaven for example which makes all them fairly suspect. Is this Age of Sigmar/Warhammer Fantasy content mistakenly added as 40k? --Librariusfunk (talk) 19:41, 12 April 2025 (UTC)

  • It's both. The Dark Tongue runes are still referenced in the background of multiple modern 40k games and promotional materials. I've scrubbed the few fantasy specific references. Skaven icon could be removed, though. --RabsRabble (talk) 23:17, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
    • The Skaven are not a 40K thing. What does the cited source say about the runes? Does it explicitly state that these runes exist in both universes? The issue arise if the source doesn't say anything specific and it is just a single editors interpretation. That Dark Tongue exists in both universes is one thing, but the runes does not need to be the same in both unless the source states that as a fact. --Librariusfunk (talk) 12:20, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
      • I've removed the skaven rune from the page, I can do so w/ the hippogryph, cockatrice, or other creatures as well. They haven't not explicitly mentioned those as being in 40k, if recall correctly.
Realm of Chaos: The Lost and The Damned page 6 has a disclaimer of sorts for Warhammer Fantasy Battle, Warhammer Roleplay, and Warhammer 40k stating it can be used for all 3.
"Warhammer 40,000 players can also create their own Champions to fight each other or any other forces of the Imperium. Players can also use this book to design armies of Chaos Renegades and Traitor Marines which confront the Imperium for control of the galaxy."--RabsRabble (talk) 13:25, 13 April 2025 (UTC)

Curation

As for curating the runes as you describe, the only real issues seem to be about the creatures that are common in fantasy but lacking a 40k counterpart, or aren't mentioned explicitly in 40k at all. Dragon Ogre, Troll, Dragon, Manticore, Cockatrice, Griffon, Hippogrif, Chimera, Gorgon, Harpy, Hydra, Jabberwock, and Wyvern. These ancient human myths still exist to some degree, if indirectly implied based on a wide range of names and metaphors. I give the Beastmen variants some slack since they exist in 40k similarly. Caprigor, Bovigor, Ungor, and Centaur are all beastmen not mentioned explicitly in 40k, as far as I know.--RabsRabble (talk) 13:25, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
