Zane Mortensen, from the cover of the Redemption Corps (Novel)[1]

Zane Mortensen is the commanding Tempestor Prime, of the Redemption Corps Tempestus Scions Company.[1c]

Biography

He was born in Gomorrah's Haephastus Hive and after Mortensen became an orphan, he attended the nearby infamous Schola Progenium complex, known as The Claw. It was while Mortensen was later doing a timed-run across Gomorrah's surface, while under the gaze of Drill Abbot Proctor, that his life changed forever[1b]. Without warning, a giant comet hit the Hive World and within moments Gomorrah's Hives were destroyed and most of its population of billions were killed. Mortensen survived the calamity, but his skin had been burned completely off by the explosions caused by the comet's impact. A small number of other Gomorrians had survived as well and luckily Mortensen was cared for by one such group of survivors, as they waited for the Imperium to rescue them. The aid never came, though, and one by one these survivors were killed by the hellish landscape Gomorrah's surface had turned into. Soon freezing temperatures left Mortensen the only member of his group alive, as his wounds prevented him from feeling the numbing coldness as they had. His salvation finally came sometime later, when Imperial tithe ships arrived at Gomorrah seeking to claim a billion Guardsmen for the Enceladus Crusade. When they found the world destroyed, the tithe ships' crews began a search for survivors, but only Mortensen was found to be still alive. His wounds were then cared for, but as Mortensen's skin regrew it was discovered that he suffered from permanent nerve damage and his skin was unable to feel anything. After Mortensen had recovered he was then transferred to the Schola Cursus and became a Tempestus Scion[1d]. His loss of feeling would serve him well in this role, as Mortensen was unable to feel any pain, unless he suffered truly devastating wounds.[1a] In time, he became the Tempestor Prime of the Redemption Corps and has gone on to lead them to numerous successful operations.[1c]
