Mutant gangs are one of the kinds of gangs known to exist on the Hive World of Necromunda.[1]

Overview

Mutations are an inevitable part of life on a planet as irredeemably polluted as Necromunda. This is not understood by the hive dwellers, who fear mutants and brand them as evil. It’s believed on Necromunda that mutants are corrupted by their own wickedness and greed, tainted by witchery of the foulest kind. This makes mutants persecuted and driven into the underhive, and even there are they hunted by the undercity gangs and scavvies. Most mutants do not survive for very long once they have been discovered.[1a]

Those that manage to survive often band together in gangs of their own, usually carving out territory in the most inaccessible and heavily polluted sections of the undercity.[1a] Once established, mutant gangers interbreed and their offspring, often more mutated than their parents, replenish the gang. Over the course of generations new mutations arise in the gangs, some of which may even by survival traits, and any mutation which helps its owner to live is naturally passed on to his descendants.[1b]

Mutant gangs use crude improvised weaponry supplemented by captured items, and their rituals are crude and savage, with reports of scarification, scragging and cannibalism.[1b]

They are usually motivated by survival and spiteful revenge against non-mutants.[1b]
