Protoid

From Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum
Jump to: navigation, search
The initial Protoid Token from the Spanish version of the Doom of the Eldar Board Game[1a] whose art was recycledfrom the "Deathspitter Counter" tokens from Advanced Space Crusade three years earlier [Note]
A Protoid encountered on the battlefield is an extremely large yellow and green gelatinous amoeba-like mass with large visible internal organs.[1a] Its physiology allows it to actively grow in size and power over time as it is capable of devouring living creatures whole and absorbing their bodies to add to its own size, it even seems to be capable of absorbing the Wraithbone bodies of Eldar Ghost-Warriors.[1b]

Overview

Protoids are highly specialized single-celled bio-constructs ordinarily used to clean up the interior of Hive Ships using the strongly corrosive enzymes that they naturally produce. These enzymes break down detritus on a Hive Ship into a slurry that is then ingested by the protoid.[1c]

Normally protoids are quite small, but when the need arises, larger protoids can be created by the Hive Mind and used as living weapons. Due to their simple jelly-like bodies they resist most kinds of conventional weaponry, thus allowing them to go unimpeded as they rampage through enemy forces. They consume every creature put in their way, only growing larger, more powerful, and even more difficult to stop as they progress.[1c]

History

The protoid was deployed in the Fall of Craftworld Iyanden by Hive Fleet Kraken.[1c]
