corrected incorrect facts (3rd to last paragraph)
Eventually another Star-god, the Deceiver, was to be the undoing of the C'tan power. He convinced the Night Bringer that the best meals were to be found in its comrades, and so began an age of slaughter as it brought all its powers to bear on consuming the other C'tan. Others followed the Night Bringer's example, but none could match him.
Eventually, the Old Ones struck back and sent the Night Bringer's plans of destruction and consumption reeling. This meant that the C'tan's final great plan to block access to the warp was abandoned and they were forced to retreat into stasis to avoid the Enslaver plague. It was betrayed by the Deceiver, and the position of its stasis tomb was provided to the Old Ones. They sent a fleet of ships to try to destroy the C'tan before it could escape into stasis. They failed to destroy it, but they succeeded in banishing the device that would keep the Night Bringer alive throughout his long slumber. It overcame this by consuming its followers and subsisting on those it had already consumed, which thanks to the Old Ones, was a huge amount. It was eventually discovered on the dead world Pavonis, aided in its escape by Dark Eldar pirates and traitor humans it was revived and defeated the Ultramarines it then 4th Company. It escaped the planet and began again to feed on nearby stars regaining its strength.
In mythology, the Night Bringer is presented by many forms. To humans it is simply known as the reaper. In Eldar Mythology it is known as the Yngir Kaelis Ra, the Destroyer of Light. Also, the Eldar God Khaine is said to have fought and slain Kaelis Ra in combat, but the battle altered Khaine's mind, turning him into a frenzied killer, hating all life. He only managed to defeat the incorporeal Nightbringer when the Laughing God informed him that the Nightbringer would only solidify its form as it attacked. As Khaine wore himself out attacking the incorporeal but so far passive Nightbringer, the Nightbringer suddenly struck out with its scythe, but fortunately for the Eldar, Khaine managed to strike first, shattering the Nightbringer's Necrodermis. Unfortunatly for Khaine, the C'tan was not dead, just its body was destroyed. Its other worldly form simply fled from the field of battle to reclaim a new body.
