Citation rules when uploading images
Remember that only images from accepted sources are allowed. It is compulsory to enter the exactly corresponding source information here and to do so in the correct format.
Let us stress again that only the exactly corresponding source is allowed, i.e. from which official source an image was taken as it appears or from which it was modified for use in the Lexicanum (the nature of the modification must also be mentioned in the Summary section of the file). It is not allowed to merely use a source for a similar image (for example to cite a novel cover as the source for the image if the original artwork used for the Lexicanum is clearly larger than the one used for the novel cover or shows parts that are not visible on the actual book cover).
Also do note that an explicit source for the actual subject of the image is required. This means you cannot simply assume/ interprete/ extrapolate that for example a person on a novel cover actually is the title character of said novel unless it is specifically stated in an official source or undisputable elements of the picture show this (e.g. the character's name on a banner or an inscription on the armour etc.) or there is really, really, really no doubt whatsoever. The latter case can normally only be argued for extremely well-known and depicted characters, such as the Emperor or the Primarchs.
On the file page itself neither the footnotes nor the numbering system for sources are used as there is only one source given here and the corresponding information can be found it its dedicated page section. All other rules applying to the source type do however apply. So depending on where the image is from you will the necessary information on one of the following subpages:
- Citation rules for text sources (paper or e-publications, NOT online resources)
- Citation rules for online resources (e.g. websites, social media)
- Citation rules for audio sources (e.g. audiobooks)
- Citation rules for video sources (e.g. videos from official channels NOT videos from videogames)
- Citation rules for videogame sources
- Citation rules for Collectible/ Trading card games (CCG/TCG)
Do explicitly note: The format described for each source type has to be followed to the letter (including structure, date formats, stylistic elements etc.). It does not matter what preferences, habits or background an editor might have, only the standardized and uniform format is allowed.
Citation rules when inserting images into articles
Do note that the name of the artist is never mentioned in image captions or the sources section of an article. This information should be included in the summary section of the file page and on the corresponding artist's own Lexicanum page under "Known works" or a similar section. For all other information regarding citations see the general citation rules and the specific, source type dependent citation rules:
