A seneschal[3]

Rogue Trader Seneschals are the trusted assistants of Rogue Traders, who aid them in handling the "small tasks" that pertain to their high ranking positions.[1]

Seneschals are integral to the functioning of any Rogue Trader House. To a Rogue Trade their Seneschal is the master of coin and commerce, master of logistics, master of emissaries, master of whispers and spies. They are spoken of quietly and carefully for all fear earning their suspicion.[1]

Description

These include keeping colonial governments on worlds conquered by the Rogue Traders from falling apart, turning the ancient treasures they have found into actual profit and maintaining their trade empires. With the Seneschals' assistance in such matters, the Rogue Traders' great minds can become focused on the major tasks, the Imperium requires of them. Or become distracted by the lavish lifestyle and pleasures their position grants them.[1]

Seneschals are typically the most competent in matters commerce in a Rogue Trader's House, even more so than the Rogue Trader themselves. They know every detail and transactions, each minutia, even better than the scribes employed to record the astronomical sums involved in running a Rogue Trader House. Those that can't do so rarely survive their role as a Seneschal for long. Those that do exude a palpable aura of menacing competency, able to gauge the subtlest degree of risk in any proposed mercantile venture. Their spy and informant networks span local systems allowing a seneschal to gauge the current condition of a system's trade and economy within hours and then counsel their Rogue Trader accordingly.[3]
