Uzkarel Ophite
Uzkarel Ophite was a Custodes Proconsul of the Hetaeron Guard Aquilon Terminator during the Horus Heresy.[1a]
By the the final stages of the Siege of Terra, Uzkarel alongside fellow Proconsul Caecaltus Dusk were the two sentinels closest to the Emperor directly on the steps of the Golden Throne. Upon the rousing of the Emperor to confront Horus aboard the Vengeful Spirit, Caecaltus was chosen over Uzkarel to take part in the assault. Ophite remained behind, but felt no shame or jealousy at the act for he only knew duty. Before Malcador the Sigillite took the place of the Emperor on the Throne, he put his finger in his mouth and made his sigil with saliva upon Caecaltus' armour.[1a]
As the Emperor battled aboard the Vengeful Spirit, traitor forces began to pound on the last door into the Throneroom. Thinking all hope was lost, Vulkan began to carry out the Emperor's final order to him by beginning to activate the Talisman of Seven Hammers to deny the enemy their prize. Uzkarel informed Vulkan that they could only hold the Throneroom for another 10-15 minutes, though he did not disagree that the activation of the Talisman was a necessity now. However due to the message being broadcast across Terra by Actae that the Emperor still lived and was fighting on against Horus, the activation was averted.[2]
