Revision as of 19:24, 7 July 2023
I tried to make a template for deities, very much like the WHFB and AoS Lexicanum have. I feel like this template is needed, as I find it very difficult to find the deities of this setting, which I feel like it's an important enough subject for any fantasy setting. I did request permission to do this.
However, I couldn't get your format to work exactly like your other templates, so I used the formatting of the other Lexicanums.
I searched the 40k Lexicanum for every Deity in the setting, mostly the Gods Category, and I think I got all the official ones.
If there are any issues feel free to tell me about it, so we can try to solve it.--Ashendant (talk) 20:20, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
Research
I've asked help for research for any deities missing from this template and the Lexicanum in general in the 40k Lore Reddit.
40kLore reddit thread requesting help finding deities
So far I've added the Hive Mind as there is enough information that states that it exists as an entity and is compared to other gods.--Ashendant (talk) 17:57, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
I have had further discussion with an Admin and I will not be adding any more entries to this template. Instead, I will provide the second-hand quotes with accurate sourcing for people with the primary sources that want to work on it can easily find it.--Ashendant (talk) 19:24, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- Ultimately what matters is not what the internet thinks about who or what is a "God" in the 40k universe, but what official sources you can find that says so. Emphasis on YOU --Siegfriedfr (talk) 18:11, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- For most cases, I can create new articles for Deity articles, with a little bit of help and quotes.
- However, the Hive Mind article is a very complex and very mechanically oriented article on how the Tyranid Hive Mind works. All these quotes deal with the Hive Mind as a Character/Warp Entity, and while they are the same thing, the scope or style these kinds of articles are very different. To be honest there's just enough variables there I don't trust myself with editing the Hive Mind article properly.--Ashendant (talk) 18:27, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- I doubt the Hive Mind can be considered a single character or single entity. As the name implies it is clearly a collectivity of minds. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 18:39, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- I only have the quotes provided, but if they are correct they do indicate that it is an individual in the singular, with one soul and it own titles. Here are a few quotes with the bolded parts that I think single it out as an individual:
- "Against this vista flickered the souls of eldar, their jewel-brightness dimmed by the incomparable glare of the Great Dragon. And this was but a tendril of the creature. The bulk of it stretched away, coils wrapped tight about the higher dimensions, joining in the distance to others, and then others again, until at a great confluence of the parts sat the terrible truth of the whole."
- "Nor does the Great Devourer, the mind of the tyranids, a being that is generated by the unthinking actions of its physical component parts, and that is perhaps greater than all the rest."
- "The tyranids are utterly alien. But we know the hive mind is real. This intelligence is emergent, coming from the billions of creatures in the swarms, but it is not an empty intellect, it is aware. It has a soul.’ ‘You say then this being is a warp entity, born of the immaterium?’ asked a Librarian."
