Ghast is a powerful Narcotic that grows within Necromunda's Forbidden Cities and is capable of leaving its users in comas.[3] The harvesting of Ghast, however, has flourished during the current reign of Planetary Governor Gerontius Helmawr and House Delaque uses a large amount of the narcotic to create their Spyker agents.[2]

Harvesting and Use

In the ancient bunkers of Necromunda, decayed artificial reconstituted diet remnants transform into a substance called ghast, a lurid green powder with potent psychic effects. Derived from Corpse-Starch, these deposits contain human proteins, giving ghast its unique properties. When ingested, ghast can either awaken psychic abilities or dangerously draw a person’s soul into the warp, depending on the individual's spiritual strength.[1]

Secret cults within the hives, particularly the Immortals, drive significant demand for ghast, using it in their rituals. Distribution is handled by undercity gangs and nomads, with Houses like Escher and Delaque rumored to use ghast in various concoctions and experiments.[1]

Trade

The ghast trade is highly profitable and dangerous, with the nobility of Necromunda, including Gerontius Helmawr, deeply involved. Ghast is traded off-world through a network of smugglers, and its locations are closely guarded secrets, often managed by noble households with connections to the ruling dynasty. Scavies also occasionally find and trade smaller quantities of wild ghast, complicating Imperial agents' efforts to trace its origins.[1]
