A Knight of the Order in Power Armour

The Knights of the Order on Caliban used a rudimentary pattern of power armour, before the arrival of the Emperor. Each suit was handed down from knight to knight and repaired/maintained throughout the Age of Strife, being one of the few technologies that the armourers of Caliban retained through the Age of Strife.[1a]

These suits of power armour increased the wearer's strength, were capable of protecting the wearer from artillery shrapnel, and had cooling systems for the wearer's comfort. The helmets were capable of filtering out toxic environments, were equipped with vox-grilles which distorted the wearer's voice, and could somewhat deafen outside sounds. Only helmets worn by team leaders had intra-vox communication systems.[1c][1d][1e][1f]

However, this armour was considered inferior in every way to Astartes power armour. Unlike Astartes armour, these suits did not have enhanced optical systems, nor their own air supply. While they did have cooling systems to increase wearer comfort, they could not protect the wearer from extreme heat/cold like Astartes power armour. Astartes armour was also more protective.[1c][1f]
