Falke Adair is a Guardsman of the Catachan CMIII Regiment.[1]

Biography

The Catachan CMIII was among the Imperial forces that unsuccessfully defended Lazulai from a Tyranid invasion. As the world began to fall to the Xenos, after months of warfare, the regiment's remaining hundreds of Guardsmen were defending the Cobalt Fortress under Major Wulf Khan's command. The Fortress itself was led by the Cadian 2012th General Kvelter and was one of the last left on Lazulai. However, with the world deemed to be beyond saving, no further reinforcements would be sent to the surviving Imperial forces there. As Lazulai was being consumed by the Tyranids, though, cracks began showing between the Fortress' Regiments. This became an issue after the Cadian Captain Bligh brought charges of infringement of discipline, breach of the disciplinary code and insubordination against Adair, for her actions during an attack on the Fortress.[1]

Though her efforts prevented the Tyranids from breaching the Cobalt Fortress' walls, Adair had disobeyed an order to stay at her post and cover a Cadian squadron. The squad was then attacked by the Xenos during the battle, which led to the deaths of Sergeant Clay and the Guardsmen Dakor, Vance and Colm. Captain Bligh held Adair directly responsible for the loss of his men and was going to execute her, after finding the Catachan CMIII Guardsman guilty of the charges he had brought against her. However, Adair's commanding officer, Major Wulf Khan, was made aware of this by her orderly, Sergeant Haruto. This allowed Khan to stop Bligh, just as he was going to kill Adair.[1]

After learning why her Guardsman was about to be executed, the Major fully agreed with Adair's actions during the battle. Khan even went so far as saying she would have ordered Adair to do the same thing. Bligh refused to relent, though, as he believed executing Adair would ensure the Cobalt Fortress' Guardsmen would maintain their discipline. The matter was finally ended when the Major knocked the Captain out and ordered him to be taken to the infirmary. As he was taken away, Khan and Adair both agreed that Bligh's actions were likely a result of him becoming xenos-bait. This led the Guardsman to disparage the Cadians, as to her it proved they could not handle fighting the Tyranids, despite talking themselves up. Khan was quick to reprimand Adair, however, and told her the Catachans were not immune from the condition either. Both Lief and Velope died as a result of it and Khan warned Adair that believing she could not become xenos-bait was the fastest way to become one. Adair accepted this, but Khan knew the Guardsman's attitude brought about the kind of trouble that led to broken hearts, teeth and formal warnings.[1]
