The Anshur Summoning
The Anshur Summoning occurred in 892.M38[2], when the Hive World of Anshur fell under the sway of the heretical Charnel Cult, who worshiped the Chaos God Khorne.[1]
Overview
When an Adeptus Administratum tithe fleet arrived in Anshur's orbit, to secure the tribute of men and resources it owed to the Imperium, the Hive World's new leaders announced their change in loyalites by destroying the fleet. The Imperium's response to this unforgivable betrayal came in the form of an overwhelming assault force, consisting of five Companies of Space Marines from the Metamarines Chapter, and an Inquisitorial writ declaring Anshur and all who dwelt there apostate. When the vengeful Metamarines arrived, they reaped a bloody tally amongst the cultists, slaying everyone of Anshur's condemned souls they encountered, until they threw the Charnel Cult back to their last strongholds on the Hive World.[1]
In their strongholds, the Charnel Cult desperately began a ritual summons, that would call out to their Daemonic allies for aid; but their flawed summoning and the many hundreds of thousands of deaths caused by the battle, drew the Bloodthirster An'ggrath into the material realm on the Hive World. An'ggrath, hungry once again for blood and souls, slew every living creature on Anshur in an orgy of violence that lasted several years as he hunted the last of the Metamarines through the corpse-strewn ruins of the Hive World's cities. After every life had been extinguished, An'ggrath left the ruined Hive World and began a path of destruction that spread to encompass many of the worlds near Anshur. The Bloodthirster's rampage was only brought to an end by the combined might of a task force from the Grey Knights and Red Hunters Chapters - though only after millions of skulls had been claimed by An'ggrath for his master Khorne.[1]
