They were among the Imperial forces that aided in the defense of the Tyranid invaded Recidious System. During the campaign to save the System, Iden was among the 8th Cadian that defended Kadaku from the Xenos. When the decision was later made to abandon the world, the Captain aided in the evacuation effort. He was under the command of Major Sarkaana, who was charged with protecting Kadaku's Orbital Defence Cannons. These massive weapons were needed to keep the Tyranids' Bio-Ship's at bay, so that the Imperium could evacuate Kadaku. However, the Tyranids swarmed the Regiment and forced the 8th Cadian to retreat before the evacuation was complete. While her Guardsmen regrouped in a new location, Iden was not amongst them and Sarkaana thought he had been killed.

In truth, Iden had become separated from the Regiment as it retreated and he took command of a number of Guardsmen who had suffered the same fate. As they defended themselves, the Captain repeatedly tried to contact Sarkaana and ask when they would launch their next attack against the Xenos. However with his long-range vox damaged, Iden had been unable to reach the Major, until his group encountered the Ultramarines' Combat Squad Damocles. They were members of the Chapter's 2nd Company, which had also been aiding in defending the Recidious System, and were led by their commander, Lieutenant Demetrian Titus. They had been sent by their Captain, Sevastus Acheran, to reclaim the Orbital Defence Cannons and had just left the area that the 8th Cadian had regrouped in. The Lieutenant then contacted Sarkaana, who was glad to find out that the Captain still lived. Afterwards, though, she ordered him to aid Titus in recapturing the facility that housed Kadaku's Orbital Cannons. Once they did so, the Major transported her forces there with Valkyries and defended the area, while Titus successfully recharged the Cannons. With the massive weapons firing once more, the evacuation was able to continue. It is not known, though, if Iden survived the battle.[1]
