Kadaku is a fecund world covered in jungle and swamps. It's considered a Death World due to its extremely dangerous and diverse flora and fauna.[4]
It is the third moon of Gas Giant 32.1 in the Recidious System. Kadaku is primarily home to Adeptus Mechanicus research facilities.[3d] Other facilities present include: promethium refineries,[4] Planetary Defence Bases with Orbital Defence Cannons,[3e] and other manufactoria.[3d]
The nearby Hive World of Avarax is sustained by the food and fuel exported from Kadaku.[4]

Overview
Even before the Tyranid invasion, Kadaku was a deadly planet, with a variety of vicious fauna and flora. Thick jungles and deep, treacherous swamps made navigation by land extremely difficult, and the humid atmosphere clogged air filters and spread many wasting diseases. Every dangerous aspect of the planet has been amplified by the Tyranids.[4]
Before the Hive Fleet's arrival, Kadaku was home to rich and diverse flora and fauna, which provided the nearby Hive World Avarax with plentiful supplies of food, but also gave rise to the planet's most important resource; large reserves of underground promethium. Isolated refineries can be found across the world's surface. These outposts are well-fortified against the encroachment of the jungle and its predators, and but for sporadic orbital transports, were mostly self-sufficient. Workers engaged in the harsh and dangerous work of drilling and siphoning the promethium fields, and refining it into the essential fuel for the God-Emperor's machines of war, which would then be transported to the nearby Hive World Avarax, or to the handful of remote Adeptus Mechanicus outposts on Kadaku.[4]
The Priesthood of Mars finds the natural dangers of the jungle and isolation from the wider Imperium to be beneficial in keeping prying eyes from their arcane works, and the ready supply of fuel ensures they may perform their rites with optimal efficiency. Whole regions of the world are forbidden to aircraft not sanctioned by the Adeptus Mechanicus, leading the few who know of such things to suspect that the Adeptus Mechanicus are engaged in top secret research on Kadaku.[4]
The Hive World of Avarax is entirely dependant on Kadaku's rich resources, without them industry would grind to a halt and the population would starve.[4] If the world falls it would also inflict a major blow on the Recidious System's logistics and supply of war materiel.
Tyranid Invasion
In M42, the planet would be invaded by a splinter of Hive Fleet Leviathan. However, Astra Militarum Regiments of the Cadian Shock Troopers and Space Marines from the Ultramarines Chapter, have now come to its defense in order to evacuate high-value Mechanicus personnel and data.[1] The world would inevitably be abandoned to the Tyranids who would begin deploying capillary towers within the first week of their invasion.[3f]
Early Stage
The first spores arrive on Kadaku. Vanguard bioforms such as Lictor and Warriors immediately begin culling and devouring the planet's top order predators, xenophagic viruses and bacteria infected plantlife. Swarms of Tyranids attack the most vulnerable refineries and the energy-rich promethium exponentially expanding the available biomass.[4]
Timeline
Time since Tyranid invasion:
- Day 1: Tyrannoforming begins.[4]
- Flora and fauna culled. Most vulnerable refineries swarmed. Prothethium exponentially expaneded tyranid biomass reserves. Largest refineries became enormous capillary towers.[4]
- Day 2: Cadian 8th continue to defend the world.
- Day 2, 09:37:16: Deathwatch Kill Team Primus deploys a virus bomb detonated in Kadaku's stratosphere, slowing the Tyranid's initial stage of invasion.[3i]
- Day 2-4: The Ultramarines 1st Company and 2nd Company arrived in system to combat the Tyranid threat. The 1st Company leaves at some point between the 2nd and 4th day of the invasion.
- Day 4: Kadaku is considered lost to the Tyranids.[3f]
- Day 4, 05:47:02 - Planetary Defence Base is recaptured by Imperial Guard and an Ultramarines squad. Orbital Defence Cannons are used to destroy a Hive Ship in low orbit.[3h]
- Day 4, 09:53:12 - The remaining high-value Mechanicus personnel (Archmagos Nozick Beta-12) and research data (Project Aurora artefact) are retrieved and evacuated a few hours later.[3e]
- Day 4, 11:28:33 - Tyranid Capillary Towers loom over the world's surface while Hierophant Bio-Titans roam the surface defending the towers. Icarus Lascannons of an abandoned Imperial Guard fortress are used to slay a bio-titan and destroy capillary towers.[3f]
