The Devastation of Zoah was a battle during the Great Crusade.[1]

Overview

The campaign was waged by the 3,283rd Expeditionary Fleet, consisting of the Night Lords and Thousand Sons under Konrad Curze and Magnus the Red. Utterly different in their approach to war, the two were forced to work together after the world of Zoah fell into both of their respective spheres of influence.[1]

Konrad Curze launched a massacre to inspire terror that purged roughly 10% of the Zoah's population, an act which swiftly saw the Zoans surrender. Though disgusted, Magnus acknowledged that the purge had quickly ended the combat phase of compliance. However Curze next ordered the burning of Zoah's Tower of Serenity, a massive library that contained arcane and religious texts. Such texts went against the Imperial Truth and the Lex Imperialis dictated their destruction. Magnus plead with Curze to not destroy the precious texts, many of them ancient. Konrad however was pitiless, and had Sevatar order his forces on the ground fire upon the tower. Magnus erected a psychic shield to protect the structure, and the two legions nearly went to war. Typical of his relentless nature, Curze said that he would bombard the shield for as long as it took to destroy, even if it were to take years. He even threatened to have the Nightfall destroy both Zoah and the Thousand Sons on its surface. Faced with no other option, Magnus lowered the shield and withdrew his forces. The Crimson King vowed to never forget what Curze had done, something that pleased the Night Haunter.[1]
