Plains of Anthrand
The Plains of Anthrand, also called the Anthrand Plains, were a large flatland region of the planet Armageddon, located in the southeast of the continent of Armageddon Prime, south of Hive Death Mire and east of Hive Volcanus.[1][2]
Third War for Armageddon
When Armageddon was once again invaded by the orks of Ghazghkull in the Third War for Armageddon, the hordes that stormed the Plains of Anthrand were under the overall command of Gazgrim, the Great Despot of Dregguk. The two most significant military actions on the Plains were the attacks on the South Primus Front and the Ghattana Bay Processing Plant.[3]
Gazgrim himself led the attacks on South Primus. However, Gazgrim was far more cunning and cautious than most orks; he recognised that the South Primus Front was very heavily fortified and, unwilling to risk his forces in a direct assault, Gazgrim instead engaged in a series of hit-and-run attacks and false strikes in an attempt to draw the Imperials into a fight on the plains themselves. The Imperial defenders did not take the bait, however. After suffering six weeks of well-coordinated artillery bombardments, Gazgrim was forced to retreat. He later had more success by initiating a flanking manoeuvre across Death Ridge, which wiped out three regiments of Ocanon Phalanx Troops.[3]
The attack on Ghattana Bay, meanwhile, was led by Judrog Irontoof.[3][4] Judrog divided his forces in two, with half making an amphibious assault while the other half, led by a mass of Deff Dreads and Killa Kans, led a frontal attack.[3] The Dred Mob was halted by a force of Space Marine Dreadnoughts of the Angels Porphyr and Omega Marines Chapters[3], led by Ancient Brothers Damos and Weylands, respectively, in the largest recorded instance of Dreadnought vs. Dreadnought combat in Imperial history.[4] Unsupported, the attack from the water was completely wiped out by other Imperial defenders.[3]

Despite the successes of the Imperials defending fortified area, the orks held firm control over many areas of the Plains.[3]
