The Siege of Darkenvault was a battle fought by the Executioners Space Marine Chapter in M39.[1]

Overview

Waged on their homeworld of Stygia-Aquilon, the Executioners battled an unknown Xenos race when their very Fortress-Monastery of Darkenvault came under assault. The attack came at a time where the Executioners had less than 300 Battle-Brothers due to campaigns against the Orks and Enslavers. The xenos were disk-shaped and able to slip into Stygia-Aquilon undetected, allowing for them to land ground beasts and launch wave after wave against the Imperial lines. The xenos eventually penetrated into the catacombs of Darkenvault, and brutal underground fighting broke out. The Executioners were slowly overwhelmed and even their Chapter Master Acas Seneca was slain.[1]

Just when all seemed lost for the Executioners, the Astral Claws, backed by Imperial Navy Cruisers arrived. The Executioners pledged to repay the debt to Astral Claws Chapter Master Lufgt Huron, which would result in the Chapter siding with Huron's rebels in the Badab War millennia later.[1]

Some within the Ordo Xenos have speculated that the unknown xenos were a precursor to the Tyranids.[1]
