The Blood King was a shape-shifting Warp entity, who led a race of polymorphic warp-beasts that once took over Necromunda's Dreaming Spire Hive.[1]

This was early in the world's history, when the Imperium was struggling to maintain its Compliance, and the Blood King was able to become bloated on the life-force of its subjects. The legendary Blades soon learned of the Spire's fall, however, and banded together to destroy the invading warp creatures. They were three sisters who were expert swordswomen and their skills allowed them to kill any of the beasts they encountered. The Blades were able to fight their way to the top of the Spire, where they killed the Blood King and ended the threat of the warp-beasts. The Blades' genetic legacy later gave rise to House Escher, whose Council of Crones maintains their House's history, which includes the sisters' exploits. The Blood King's death at sisters' hands is a part of this history and the tale has become as the Hive of the Blood Drinkers. It has become the most famous of the Blades' stories and is extremely popular amongst House Escher's children.[1]
