Cestis is a barren, mountainous world of the Imperium, located in the galactic southeast of the Chalnath Expanse.[1b]
History
During the Age of the Dark Imperium, the T'au had made inroads into the Chalnath Expanse as part of their Fifth Sphere of Expansion. The T'au Earth Caste had established a research outpost on Cestis with their Water Caste bribing a number of pirates to keep the outpost hidden.[1b]
Eventually the Deathwatch learned of the existence of the outpost after interrogating a pirate. Watch Captain Seraphus believed that the facility was an assembly point for a T'au army.[1b] As Cestis was a crucial world for control of the Expanse[1a], Seraphus led a rapid assault on the planet, seeking to deal a decisive blow to the T'au before they could annex it. The attempt failed, however, and the war for Cestis has become a gruelling battle of attrition.[1b]
