Immortalis is a Flesh Tearers short story by Andy Smillie, originally published online in March 2012 as part of Black Library's 15th anniversary celebration.
Black Library Description
"Most men only die once. Some are not so lucky. Hear the last confession of one of the Emperor’s Angels, a Space Marine of the Flesh Tearers, as he meets his final end." [1]
Overview
In his dying moments, a Flesh Tearer recounts his sudden fall to the Black Rage, his addition to the Chapter's Death Company and apparent death, only to find himself interred into a Dreadnought sarcophagus.[2]
Summary
After successfully repelling an Ork attack alongside the Imperial Guard, an enraged Flesh Tearer unknowingly falls to the Red Thirst, slaughtering his Imperial Guard allies until he is knocked-out. He awakes in a Drop Pod, discovering his Wargear is now painted the colours of the Death Company. On planetfall, the raging Death Company battle a force of Eldar in close combat, with the Flesh Tearer suffering a mortal wound.[2a] Awareness returning, the Flesh Tearer recalls his nightmarish internment into a Dreadnought as he responds to a Tyranid incursion. Fighting a large Tyranid bioform, the Flesh Tearer is bisected by its claws, destroying his Dreadnought sarcophagus; the prospect of a final death gladdens him.[2b]
