The Battle of Varadon was a battle of the Tyrannic Wars.[1]

Overview

In 987.M41[Note 1], the Imperial world of Varadon, homeworld of the Shadow Wolves Chapter, was invaded by the tyranids.[1]

Despite the support of the Black Templars, the planet was overrun. The Wolves' fortress-monastery was destroyed and every remaining Marine of the Chapter was killed.[1][Conflicting sources]

In the novel Helsreach, Merek Grimaldus claims that the Shadow Wolves were completely wiped out in the Battle of Varadon.[1] However, the later novel Ragnar Blackmane depicts a detachment of the Shadow Wolves that were active in the 13th Black Crusade (in 999.M41).[2] It is possible that Grimaldus was mistaken and that some of the Wolves survived (whether they escaped the destruction of the planet or were simply not present on Varadon at the time) or that there are multiple Shadow Wolves Chapters.
