The Battle of Xenobia Principis was a battle of the Great Crusade and the first battle between the forces of the Imperium under Warmaster Horus and the Interex on the planet Xenobia.^[1a]

Overview

The battle itself took both sides by surprise, after the Interex's museum of weapons on the Xenobia planet was raided and destroyed by unknown assailants while Horus was engaged in negotiations with the Interex. The Interex took this as an Imperial surprise attack, and battle between the Luna Wolves and Interex warriors riding on cybernetic centaur-like machines broke out through the streets of Xenobia Principic. The city was devastated and the Sons of Horus evacuated the planet. Horus, knowing that any chance of peace had long since passed, became committed to war against the Interex.^[1a]

Unknown to both sides, the Word Bearer's under Erebus had been responsible for the conflict, having raided the Interex Museum to acquire the weapon known as the Anathame,^[1b] which would become a key instrument in the formation of the Horus Heresy.^{[Needs Citation]}
