Kiy-Buran is an Imperial world, that is a wasteland of irradiated sands.[1]

History

During the Great Crusade, it was home to countless cannibal Mutants, armed with clubs and axes, who were ruled by the barbarian warlord Ek'Lobia. When the Imperium sought to bring Kiy-Buran into Compliance, the Veradan Regulars Imperial Army Regiment was sent, but they were unable to deal with the mutants. After three months of fighting they became trapped by Ek'Lobia's hordes and three Space Marine Companies of the IX Legion were dispatched to bring the war to an end. The Warlord's unending hordes and horrors of Old Night, prevented the IX from reaching Ek'Lobia, however, and they were forced to regroup. The surviving 380 Legionaries then changed their battle tactics and also began capturing Mutants and turning them into new Initiates, with the IX's hardy Gene-Seed. After 12 years of war the Legion began to overwhelm Ek'Lobia's forces, with their now 1,000 Legionaries and the Warlord fled into space. He did not get far though, as his primitive spaceship was destroyed by a recently arrived Imperial Fists fleet, that was led by its Primarch Dorn. However upon seeing the charnel house that Kiy-Buran's surface had become, Dorn reprimanded the IX Legion and the world's remaining cities were razed. The history of the campaign was also subsequently erased from the Imperium's records.[1]
